Program Objective

  • To understand why projects need to be managed differently from the operations of the organisation

  • To understand the role of management in ensuring risks to the project are effectively managed
  • To understand the role of management in ensuring that the project delivers the required benefits to the organisation
  • To understand the approach used by PRINCE2® to control changing requirements

Program Overview
This course covers both PRINCE2®Foundation and Practitioner course covering 5 days, out of which first four days will cover Foundation course followed by Foundation examination on 4th day. Day 5 will cover the Practitioner course followed by Practitioner examination. Formal training lasts from 9.00am - 6.00pm each day with home study and revision exercises. We provide detailed training material since the PRINCE2® manual is intended as a reference book and does not by itself provide a sound basis for studying the method. There is an integrated case study to provide a firm basis for discussion and understanding of the method.

The course is suitable for any organisation or individual seeing the need for a controlled approach to managing its projects from any discipline, including: Project Managers, Project Support, and Team Members. The PRINCE2® method is flexible and adaptable for any type and size of project. It offers an excellent management foundation for any member of staff; no prior Project Management knowledge is necessary.

Pre-course Reading
There is some pre-course preparation requiring approximately 15 hours study. The material is supplied as a computer-based course which can be used on any PC with a web browser. Connection to the internet is not required. The pre-course material covers the differences between line management and project management followed by an overview of the PRINCE2® method. Self-test material is included. Also we will provide the registered candidate an access to APM group website for some other pre course study material before attending the course.

Examination

There are two levels to the certifications exams:

The Foundation Level:

  • Foundation certification is aimed at enabling the candidate to act as an informed member of the team using the PRINCE2 method.
  • Basic understanding of the principles and terminologies of PRINCE2 PM method is tested.
  • Foundation exam is one hour long and of multiple choice questions (closed book). To pass Foundation exam, one need get 35 correct answers out of 70 questions.
  • One needs to pass the Foundation Level exam to appear for a PRINCE2 Practitioner exam.

The Practitioner Level

  • The Practitioner Level aims to measure whether the candidate’s ability to apply PRINCE2 methods to the running and managing of a project.
  • They need to show that they are able to tune PRINCE2 to different project circumstances and understand the relationship between processes, components and techniques.
  • The Practitioner Exam is a Scenario based examination lasting three hours.
  • This is an open book format and the minimum pass mark is now 55%.

It is possible to take the Foundation Level only.

Sample examination questions are introduced throughout the course at an appropriate time. Candidates are encouraged to take the PRINCE2® Foundation and Practitioner examinations on the fourth and fifth day respectively immediately following the course.
